How a 90-Day Security Roadmap Helps Growing Companies Reduce Risk
A practical roadmap gives founders and technology leaders a clear sequence for risk reduction, ownership, and executive reporting.
Start with a clear picture
The first month is about understanding the business and its most important risks. Identify critical systems and data, speak with the people who own them, and review existing controls, incidents, contractual obligations, and ongoing projects. Record gaps and assumptions so that leaders can see where more evidence is needed.
Turn findings into priorities
During the second month, rank the findings by potential business impact, likelihood, and the effort needed to address them. Assign an accountable owner to each priority and agree on achievable milestones. Improvements might include stronger access controls, tested backups, incident response planning, or clearer supplier oversight, depending on the assessment.
Put the plan into practice
In the final month, begin the agreed work and establish a regular review with leadership. Track decisions, overdue actions, and changes in risk rather than relying on a long list of technical activities. A 90-day roadmap is a starting point: revisit it as the business, its systems, and its priorities change.
Make progress visible
A useful roadmap connects each action to an owner, a target date, and the risk it addresses. Short, regular updates help leadership resolve dependencies and decide where further investment is needed. Not every risk can be eliminated, so document decisions to accept, reduce, transfer, or avoid material risks.
